Jennifer Victor: "Stranger"
What inspires your music?
-Life has probably been my biggest inspiration. It comes from experiences I've had, or even some that have been inspired by what close friends have gone through. I am also very inspired by people in my life, amazing people who have overcome hardships and come out stronger.
How did you start your recording career?
- Realistically, I only really started after I set my home studio (it is a very simple set up). I only released my first original song last year, so I feel like I'm fairly new to it all. I've been singing for years but I've always been pretty quiet about it. I started my YouTube channel in 2016, and began uploading covers as a way for my family and friends to hear me sing. I've had a steady growth since then and I'm so grateful for the support and love I've received.
How did you come up with your single?
- My latest single was written in 3 days, so I always say it kind of wrote itself. I wanted a song that was lyrically a bit heavy, and something that fit the style/flow of the track. I can't write about things I haven't experienced in some way, so part of it is personal to me, and part of it is inspired. I wanted a song that was relatable, and powerful..almost like a "last word" type of vibe.
What is your genre of music?
- Definitely pop music. I sing a lot of different styles, but my heart is in pop.
Who are your influences?
- I grew up surrounded in musical diversity. My biggest musical influences from childhood are Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Queen, Mariah Carey, Selena, and The Beegees.
I am also hugely influenced by artists such as Dua Lipa, Ava Max, James Arthur, The Weeknd.
How do you define success?
- I think success is defined by personal goals and overall wellness. For myself, success in life is measured by the things we often take for granted. It is having a roof over my head, a place to rest my head, and food on the table. And having a few good people in my life who love me as I am. Success in music, is putting my words on paper and being able to create something I am proud of. To always stay open and doing so with authenticity.
What can we expect from you in 2021?
- This year I have a goal to release 3 or 4 songs that I hope will be released as an EP. I have some collaborations with other artists that I'm very excited about as well.
