Hito Star: "PRISM" (Feature/Interview)
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Shizuoka, Japan. (It's in the center of Japan between Tokyo and Osaka where Mt. Fuji is.) I am based in NYC now.
How did you get your start in music?
As I grew up in my tiny hometown in Japan, I was always inspired by the great nature around my house. I naturally started to sing, dance and explore my creativity in mountains and gardens as a child.
I had a striking experience at the age of 4 when I went to see my first musical theater show. I was mesmerized by the professional energetic singing and dancing, and I was crying at the end of the show. That's when I decided I want to sing and dance for the rest of my life. Somehow, I felt like it is an agreement with the universe that I am here to give back the great energy to the world.
Is music a big part of your family?
Yes it definitely is. My mom is a music teacher, and my dad is a Japanese teacher at junior high schools, and they both LOVE music. I grew up having both of my parents singing and playing instruments (Mom : piano, Dad: guitar and mandolin) for recitals besides their teaching careers. My dad used to listen to Classical music on his big stereo system in the house, and I used to love learning different composers and how to appreciate different music from him. My mom was always singing happily and playing piano with us in the house. She loves singing areas from different operas even now in her 60's.
What is the biggest message you want to bring to your audience?
"Believe in yourself". The main reason I do what I do is to really inspire people in the world with my creativity. We truly inspire others when we are authentically ourselves, and it really starts within. If I don't believe in myself, no one will believe in me. I want to create what I love to express and be the inspiration for people so they can believe in themselves. Life is too short and too precious, so I want to express myself fully at any moment, and be a positive change in this world.
What has been the most challenging part of your music journey?
The most challenging part in the music business for me is to find the right person to work with. Since I have been building my music career by myself, I have to promote myself, be in touch with all the people, negotiate and maintain good relationships. I got scammed a number of times for promotions and marketing thinking they are the right people to work with. I also was asked to have sex to gain more followers and connect with celebrities who have access to them. I had managers completely stop responding to my messages one day and disappeared. These experiences really made me blame my naiveness and doubt myself and others, but eventually they made me stronger and have a stronger relationship with myself.
Any good vocal health tips you can share?
Stay hydrated and healthy all the time. I do not drink, smoke or do any drugs to maintain my body and vocal cords health. Lower body workouts or dancing can help bring up your energy for singing.
What are your goals for the rest of 2023?
My goals in the next 5 years are to get a Grammy award, Academy Award and be on the front page of major magazines such as VOGUE, ELLE, TIMES and Forbes. In 2023, I want to produce my music videos especially for my song "PRISM", and produce more new singles and an EP or album. I also want to really take my social media to another level so I can reach more followers and fans who need inspiration in this world. I believe my presence and creativity can lighten up the world and inspire many people who need love and hope.
