Anne Garr: "Do You Remember" (Feature/Interview)

Where are you from?

I'm a singer-songwriter from the NCR, the Beautiful National Capital Region of Canada.

How did you start making music?

I got started in music singing in various churches and schools, where I learned the techniques of Early music and Gregorian Chant. Later on I moved into Opera-Classical and Contemporary styles.

Is music a big part of your family?

As part of a large Irish and French-Canadian family, arts and music in all its different forms has always been a part of our culture and life.

What artists and songs did you grow up listening to?

I grew up listening to alot of traditional Irish-Scottish music ie: The Traditional songs of John McCormack and Kenneth McKellar as well as many Celtic singers of present day ie: Enya, Celtic Woman, Anùna. More recently my influences touched on a number of different genres such as The Great American Songbook and more contemporary French and English artists ie: Doris Day, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Linda Rondstadt, Nana Mouskouri, Olivia Newton John, Faith Hill, Celine Dion, Martina McBride, Adele, Michael Bublé, Barbara Pravi, to name a few.

What is the biggest message you want to bring to your audience?

Well...I sing for the love of music and I try to bring the joy and beauty of music to the people I meet when I perform. Making music to lift the hearts and spirits of all who listen.

What has been the most challenging part of your music journey?

The most challenging part of my musical journey so far has been dealing with Lymes disease and RA(Rheumatoid-Arthritis) and the perseverance and determination required for vocal training under those conditions.

Any good vocal health tips you can share?

Vocal Health tip number 1:

Doing Pilates is a great exercise as it helps strengthen the core. It also helps to give you better posture for singing and holding your notes longer, win-win!

Vocal Health tip number 2:

Drink lots of water, always exercise your voice for 10 minutes before all-out singing.

Vocal Health tip number 3:

I also like to drink a mixture of warm (not hot) chamomile tea with raw honey. It really helps soothe the voice and calm the nerves before a performance and preps the whole 'You' for singing and performing.

Vocal Health tip number 4:

Prayer, Meditation and Trust in God!...Do what you can ,work hard, train well and let God take care of the rest. He surely will, God is the ultimate Artist!!

What are your goals for the rest of 2023?

My single 'Do you Remember' will be released to the public. That's already an accomplished goal. I'm very grateful to Roy and the Singer's Company for the collaboration and hopefully many more to come. Another goal this year would be to collaborate with various singers on duets, doing film scores, participating in music events, record deals and more....Most importantly, just continuing doing  what I love most....singing for many years to come.
