Jaida Leigh: "Maybe One Day" (Exclusive Interview)
How'd you come up with your stage name?
My full name is Jaida Leigh Miller and when I was finding my stage name I just figured jaida leigh sounded perfect and simple.
Where are you from?
I'm from Clearwater, Florida which is not far from Tampa.
How did you get your start in music?
I would always sing and dance for my mom and grandma and aunt from when I was like 2 years old. I loved to look at myself in the mirror while I did it too. When I was around 5 my mom put me in musical theater and I loved itl I've performed in about 15 plays and have sung in numerous concerts and competitions. I started taking vocal lessons at age 7 and started teaching myself the ukulele and piano when I was around 10 and decided that music and performing is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Is music a big part of your family?
Definitely! My grandma and my dad are both singers. My dad sings on the worship team at church. My grandma currently sings at her church and back in the 80's she used to sing in Chicago with blues singer and guitarist Buddy Guy and also withTyrone Davis. My great grandfather played saxophone and also sang and had a band called Sim Miller and the Vanguards. My mother plays the piano and saxophone and we sometimes write and sing together.
What artists and songs did you grow up listening to?
The Jonas Brothers (my favorite), Whitney Houston, Maverick City, Frank Ocean, Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett and tons of musical theater stuff of course.
What is the biggest message you want to bring to your audience?
I would want everyone to know that they aren’t alone and there is always someone who has been through the same things.
What has been the most challenging part of your music journey?
For me it would definitely be finding the right lyrics to go with the various melodies I've come up with.
Any good vocal health tips you can share?
Rest,Rest,Rest. Your voice is like your body and when it’s tired you need to take a break. You also need to do regular warmups and exercises. I use vocal straws for that.
What are your goals for 2024?
To have people listen to my music, and to write a lot more and to get my driver's permit and learn to drive!
