Feb 23 Alessia: “Like U” (Exclusive Interview)

What inspires your music?

The little things in life, small gestures, feelings that we all feel are what inspire me the most.

So I speak my mind, through the lyrics I try to relate with people in the simplest way, so to create a direct and instant connection with the listeners.

How did you start your recording career?

Years ago my friends surprised me for my birthday, giving me a postcard that said “Get ready cause you’re gonna record a song”. Basically they booked me a recording session in a studio an hour from my place. At that time I didn’t have any original songs ready to be recorded, so I chose an Ed Sheeran’s song. That was my first experience in a recording studio, and I loved it so much I kept dreaming about recording my own songs one day!

Three years ago I joined Bimm London, and as I stepped deeper into the music industry I finally felt confident enough to release my own songs.

How did you come up with your single?

I wrote "Like U" almost a year ago, during the first lockdown. I was stuck in my room, far away from all my family and friends like everybody else. Things were changing very fast and it was scary! Somehow I felt very grateful for all the good people around me.

The melody kinda came with what I wanted to say.

What is your genre of music?

I am trying to make my own path and create my own sound but I would definitely say that I listen to a lot of Pop, Pop-Soul and R&B songs.

Who are your influences?

I am influenced by the current London music scene and artists such as Lily Moore, Olivia Dean and Anne-Marie but also worldwide known artists like Amy Winehouse.

How do you define success?

For me success is not that "big thing", but something simpler and personal, like writing and releasing music. When people connect and get excited/emotional with my own songs, that’s success for me.

What can we expect from you in 2021?

I have big projects for 2021. I’ll have a lot of new music coming out and hopefully I’ll be able to perform them live soon! I’m also finishing my degree in Popular Music Performance!
