Isabella Chiarini: 'Gotta Be' (Feature Interview)

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?/FUN FACT ABOUT YOUR CITY.

Hamilton,ON.

A fun fact about Hamilton is that especially downtown they have a lot of small, one off bars that tend to have live music. You could pretty much walk into any small bar or coffee shop on the weekend and listen to new music.

FIRST RECORDING EXPERIENCE.

The first time I recorded a song was when I was around 11 years old. I recorded a cover of “A Thousand Years”-Christina Perri, the song from the Twlight movies. The studio was a little home studio and it was a really great and chill first experience. It was recorded as a gift because my dad’s friend was getting married and I was singing this song in their ceremony. Unfortunately, it was so long ago that it was put on a CD and it can’t really be played now because nobody has CD players anymore.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF YOUR ARTISTRY SO FAR?

I always find that trying to constantly better myself and reinventing myself is the most challenging part because I’m always trying to release better music but it’s easy to get stuck in ruts and second guess yourself. Another challenge for me has been the rejection, which obviously comes with the territory but when I was first starting out it used to get to me. Whenever I get stuck in ruts or start to self doubt I always remind myself it isn’t personal and I keep going.

NEW SINGLE “GOTTA BE”

My new single “Gotta Be” was released on January 8th 2025. It is about a toxic relationship dynamic, someone who is coming in and out of your life causing a mess but every time they come back it’s constant manipulation that makes it seem it all okay. It’s that battle of you know you shouldn’t take them back but it’s hard to walk away.

RECORDING PROCESS OF “GOTTA BE”

I originally wrote this song with my vocal coach Teresa Nocita, once it was done I recorded the song with Paul Gigliotti in Niagara Falls. I’ve recorded with them before on my previous song “Lose you” so it was a great experience because I was comfortable. My idea for this song was to make it an upbeat pop song taking inspiration from The Weeknd, Chappel Roan and Dua Lipa. I like the parallel of the angry lyrics with the upbeat music. It shows how you can be feeling upset inside but nobody would know on the outside.

VOCAL HEALTH TIPS.

My biggest tip would be to hydrate. I always tell my students and I practice this myself, always start paying extra attention to your water intake a few days before an event. Whether it be recording, gigging, videos etc. hydrating a few days before is key. It takes a little bit of time for your body to absorb it. I also always drink hot water because your body absorbs warmer water better than cold and I find it soothes my throat a lot more than cold or room temperature water.

SHOUTOUTS.

My single “Gotta Be” is available on all major music platforms!

A live video of me performing “Gotta Be” aired on CHCH news for their new music Friday segment on Jan 17th! The video can be found on their YouTube channel or on my Linktree! Link in my Instagram bio @Isabellachiarinii
