Arpi Alto: Exclusive Feature/Interview
How'd you come up with your stage name?
It was not hard to choose. It was quite easy and quick. Arpi is my real name and Alto, as I had such a voice from my early childhood and my friends used to jokingly call me Alto which is a pleasant description of my skills))
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Armenia, but my mother has German roots and my dad is Armenian.
How did you get your start in music?
I was raised surrounded by art and music, my dad is a painter and both my mom, grandma, and grandad are musicians. It was hard not to have any connection to music.
Is music a big part of your family?
As I mentioned, music has always been a part of me. My first joint concert with my mom took place when I was 3. Now being a mom, I also try to have a spirit of music at home.
What artists and songs did you grow up listening to?
My grandad was a classically trained violinist and a conductor so classical music was a foundation of my perception of music. But, thanks to my mom, my childhood was filled with jazz melodies which had a more powerful influence on me. In general, I listen to different genres.
What is the biggest message you want to bring to your audience?
I am trying to create my musical world, where I will also be able to convey my emotions and unique musical colors to the listener... and I think it works, which gives me wings to continue creating.
What has been the most challenging part of your music journey?
Every time I feel very nervous during large concerts, I cannot get rid of it. So, each concert is a kind of a challenge for me.
Any good vocal health tips you can share?
Frankly speaking, I am a little bit careless about my voice and, for example, I eat too much ice cream)), but as a very useful thing for the vocal cords, I would definitely recommend peach oil, which softens the vocal cords.
What are your goals for the rest of 2023?
I am very proud and honored to join several jazz festivals. I also promise my audience to record new jazz tracks this year.
